Rechael Okonkwo Debut Book ‘Odogwu Girl’ shares her journey from hardship to success, inspiring women through resilience and determination

Award-winning Nollywood actress and philanthropist Rechael Okonkwo has unveiled her first book, Odogwu Girl: From Dreams to Reality, at a colourful launch in Lagos, marking a new milestone in her career beyond acting.

The memoir chronicles Rechael Okonkwo’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of Nollywood’s recognisable faces, highlighting the struggles, sacrifices and achievements that shaped her path.

Rechael Okonkwo Debut Book explores themes of resilience, self-belief and perseverance, with the actress describing the publication as a source of encouragement for women and young people facing personal challenges.

Speaking at the launch, Okonkwo said she was proud to document her experiences and hoped the book would motivate readers to remain determined regardless of their circumstances.

“I feel proud of myself. I’m glad I’ve come this far, and I’m happy to have written something that will inspire, encourage and motivate women to keep believing in themselves, no matter what they are going through or where they come from,” she said.

The actress, popularly known as Nkoli Nwa Nsukka, said Odogwu Girl represents years of perseverance, faith and personal growth, while encouraging readers to believe that difficult beginnings do not define their future.

Okonkwo revealed that some of the most significant experiences shared in the book came from her early life, including losing her father at the age of 13 and becoming the first child responsible for supporting her five younger siblings.

“Life has never been easy for me, but one thing has always stood out; my decision to keep going and to thrive no matter what comes my way,” she said.

She explained that the book goes beyond her acting career by sharing personal lessons, reflections and encouragement drawn from her journey through hardship and success.

“This book is beyond acting. It contains my experiences, my insights about life and, most importantly, encouragement,” Okonkwo said.

Known for her humanitarian work and programmes supporting women and young people, the actress said the publication aligns with her broader commitment to mentorship, education and personal development.

She described the “Odogwu spirit” as a symbol of courage, strength and the determination to continue moving forward despite setbacks.

The book launch attracted personalities from Nigeria’s entertainment and literary communities, including actresses, filmmakers, comedians and content creators who gathered to celebrate the actress’ transition from screen storytelling to written storytelling.

Guests at the event described the publication as a significant achievement and part of a growing trend among Nigerian entertainers who are documenting their experiences to inspire future generations.
