In a series of social media posts shared on Monday, April 20, 2026, the actress said she was disturbed by what she called “half-baked” performers demanding high prices despite lacking adequate training and commitment to their craft.

Wumi Toriola said many new entrants into Nollywood appear more focused on quick fame and financial gain than on developing their acting abilities, a trend she described as alarming and unsustainable.

She stated that while she values emerging talent, professionalism and skill must remain the priority for anyone seeking serious opportunities in film production.

The actress, who also works as a producer, said she is often involved in casting upcoming actors but insists that they must first demonstrate genuine ability before being introduced to major producers.

She added that she takes pride in supporting grassroots talent, noting that several of her projects feature a blend of established stars and new performers.

However, she stressed that rising costs without matching competence create challenges on set and disrupt production processes.

Her comments have sparked fresh debate within Nollywood about pricing, training standards and the balance between opportunity and preparedness for emerging actors.
