Vector Tha Viper reveals his mother’s family connection to legendary Nigerian highlife musician Orlando Owoh, sparking excitement among fans

 

Nigerian rapper Olanrewaju Ogunmefun David, widely known as Vector Tha Viper, has revealed a surprising family connection to the late music legend Orlando Owoh. In a recent exchange on social media, Vector shared that his mother is related to the iconic highlife musician.

The revelation came in response to a viral tweet from an X user, @Yorubaness, who asked people to share something remarkable about their family history or ancestors. Vector, joining the conversation, wrote: “My mum and Orlando Owoh are related.”

This exciting revelation quickly captured the attention of many fans, with some urging the rapper to incorporate elements of Orlando Owoh’s musical style into his own work. The connection to Owoh, a pioneer of Nigerian highlife music, has added an interesting layer to Vector’s heritage.

Orlando Owoh, whose full name was Stephen Oladipupo Olaore Owomoyela, was a prominent Nigerian highlife musician. His musical journey began in 1958 when he started as a drummer with the Kola Ogunmola Theatre Group By 1960, Owoh formed his own band, *Dr. Orlando Owoh and His Omimah Band*, which marked the beginning of his illustrious career in highlife music.

Over the span of his 40-year career, Owoh released over 45 albums and became one of the most influential figures in the Nigerian music scene.

His contributions to the genre, particularly through his pioneering bands such as Young Kenneries and African Kenneries International, solidified his place as a leading proponent of highlife. Owoh passed away on November 4, 2008, and was laid to rest at his residence in Agege, Lagos.

This newfound family link has sparked excitement among fans, with many expressing hopes that Vector might honour Owoh’s legacy by sampling his iconic music in future projects.
