Nollywood actress Sarah Martins has publicly defended fellow actor Yul Edochie following the conclusion of the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, stating that the actor deserved recognition for his contribution to the film industry.

Reacting after the prestigious awards ceremony held over the weekend, Martins acknowledged her differences with Edochie but insisted that his acting abilities remain exceptional.

“Hate aside, Yul Edochie is a fantastic actor, and he deserves a win. AMVCA, you people can do better,” Martins wrote in a social media post while congratulating other award recipients.

The statement quickly attracted attention online as fans and industry observers debated Edochie’s place in Nollywood and his long-standing claims about his acting prowess.

Sarah Martins defends Yul Edochie at a time when the actor continues to attract both praise and criticism within the entertainment industry.

In recent years, Edochie has repeatedly described himself as the best actor in Nigeria and Africa, arguing that his intensity and screen presence set him apart from his peers.

In 2024, the actor publicly declared himself the finest performer on the continent, insisting that many people already shared the same opinion.

Edochie’s wife, Judy Austin, has also openly praised his acting and directing abilities, describing him as unmatched in Nollywood.

Veteran actor Kanayo O. Kanayo previously commended Edochie’s performance skills while working with him on a movie set, saying the actor possesses a remarkable ability to express emotion through voice and body language.
