Judy Austin had earlier sparked reactions online after she raised concerns about cultural expectations surrounding women and traditional Igbo attire, particularly the red cap, which is often associated with titled men in Igbo society.

Responding in a strongly worded Instagram post, Rita Edochie questioned Judy Austin’s authority to lecture others on traditional matters, accusing her of hypocrisy and inconsistency in her public commentary.

The actress drew comparisons between Judy Austin’s remarks and her personal controversies, stating that she should not position herself as a moral guide on cultural issues.

Rita Edochie wrote that it was contradictory for someone she described as lacking moral standing to advise others on cultural values and proper conduct.

She further argued that individuals who do not uphold societal expectations should be careful about issuing public advice on tradition and morality.

In her post, she also questioned the credibility of Judy Austin’s comments, suggesting that her past actions undermine her position on issues of tradition and respect.

Rita Edochie said it was unfair for anyone who has been publicly criticised over personal conduct to assume the role of a cultural authority.

She added that discussions around tradition should be guided by integrity, consistency and respect for cultural values.

The exchange has since generated reactions across social media, with users divided over the comments made by both actresses.

While some defended Rita Edochie’s stance, others argued that the issue of Igbo traditional attire should be separated from personal disputes.
