Rita Edochie arthritis rumours followed a dancing video online. The Nollywood actress said she remains active while promoting a new cinema film

On Friday 11 September 2026 in Nigeria, Nollywood actress Rita Edochie, the 62-year-old Anambra-born performer, rejected Rita Edochie arthritis claims after a video of her dancing circulated on social media.

Rita Edochie, who is married to Tony Edochie and has appeared in Nollywood films since the 1990s, posted on Instagram after critics linked her movements to the joint condition.

She said she remains strong, energetic and flexible, and asked whether her critics’ mothers could match that activity. “Can their mothers ever be as strong, active, energetic, and flexible as I am? Impossible!” she wrote.

Rita Edochie said she had been travelling, standing for hours and moving from morning until night while promoting her cinema film Properties of the Gods.

She accused some commenters of jealousy because her name is trending. “Your empty head could only find arthritis to talk about,” she added.

The actress also criticised online bullying, saying attacks of that kind can push people into depression. She said she would not stop using social media or sharing updates with followers.

In a longer version of the post she told critics to delete their accounts if they were tired of seeing her, and said she had been busy on the promotional tour while others were “diagnosing” her.

Rita Edochie is a veteran of motherly roles and a former radio presenter with the Anambra State Broadcasting Service.

She recently appeared at events around Properties of the Gods, a film that addresses the Osu caste system and features an ensemble including Joke Silva.
