Patience Ozokwo marriage revealed: actress shares arranged union, 23 years of love, and raising seven children with dedication and sacrifice

Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwo has opened up about her personal life, revealing that she entered into an arranged marriage at the age of 19.

In a post shared via the verified X account Igbo History and Fact, Ozokwo recounted the early challenges of marrying a man she did not choose.

“Marriage found me at just 19. It wasn’t my choice, my parents arranged it. At first, I was scared. I didn’t know how to love a man I didn’t choose,” she explained.

Despite initial fears, the actress said that love developed over time, sustaining a marriage that lasted 23 years.

She disclosed that her husband suffered from illness for 15 years before passing away in 2000.

Ozokwo highlighted her family life, noting that she had three biological children and adopted five more, though one of the adopted children later passed away, leaving her with seven children.

She emphasised that she chose never to remarry, dedicating herself entirely to raising her family.

Reflecting on modern marriages, the actress expressed concern that many couples today prioritise personal perfection over commitment, which she believes contributes to marital breakdown.

In contrast, she praised her generation’s approach, which valued endurance and mutual respect.

“I have told my children never to think of divorce. I raised my daughters to be respectful and my sons to be responsible. That is how I built a strong home through hardship, love, respect, and sacrifice,” Ozokwo said.
