Lilian Afegbai AMVCA snub sparks reaction as the actress criticises organisers after missing out on 2026 nominations

Nollywood actress Lilian Afegbai has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) after she was excluded from the 2026 nomination list, describing the omission as unjust while insisting her performance in a popular series deserved recognition.

The actress reacted via her X (formerly Twitter) account shortly after the nominees for the 12th edition of the awards were announced, noting that her character in the series To Kill A Monkey generated significant attention and engagement among viewers.

Despite her disappointment, she emphasised that she does not rely on awards for personal validation.

Lilian Afegbai AMVCA snub became a trending topic as she openly criticised the decision, stating that her portrayal of the character “Idia” resonated strongly with audiences and stood out during the period in question.

She pointed out that her performance, in her view, was impactful enough to merit a nomination.

In a candid and defiant tone, the actress further remarked that the organisers could “eat” their award, signalling her frustration with the outcome while maintaining that her career progression and self-worth are not dependent on industry accolades.

Her co-star in the same production, Bimbo Akintola, was among those nominated in the Best Lead Actress category, a development that further highlighted the contrast that prompted Afegbai’s reaction.
