Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has called for the introduction of lifetime royalties for actors in Nigeria, urging industry stakeholders to adopt reforms that ensure long-term financial security for performers.

The Kanayo O Kanayo lifetime royalties actors proposal was made as part of his broader appeal to improve welfare structures within the Nigerian film industry.

He urged the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) to implement a system where actors continue to earn royalties from films they appear in, particularly productions distributed on streaming platforms.

Kanayo said such a framework would help reduce financial hardship faced by actors after their active years in the industry.

He also proposed the establishment of a dedicated agency to regulate and enforce royalty payments across the entertainment sector.

According to him, many actors struggle financially once acting roles decline, making structured royalties essential for sustainability.

The veteran actor stressed that performers deserve ongoing compensation for their creative contributions long after production ends.

Industry stakeholders have continued to debate the issue of royalties in Nollywood, especially as digital streaming platforms expand revenue opportunities.

The proposal has sparked renewed conversations about reforming compensation structures in the Nigerian creative industry.
