Ibrahim Yekini’s 13-part Yoruba movie series reaches a remarkable milestone and claims the most-viewed African film title on YouTube

Nollywood actor and filmmaker Ibrahim Yekini, popularly known as Itele d’Icon, is celebrating a major achievement in Lagos after his 13-part Yoruba movie series, Koleoso, surpassed 141.6 million combined views on YouTube on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

The milestone has positioned Koleoso as the most-viewed African movie title on YouTube, according to figures announced by Yekini, with the total continuing to rise.

The filmmaker shared the achievement with his followers while acknowledging the viewers, cast and crew who contributed to the series’ remarkable performance.

“Koleoso makes history as the most-viewed African movie title on YouTube, with over 140 million combined views across Parts 1-13 and still counting,” Yekini said.

The individual episodes have recorded strong numbers, helping the series build its impressive cumulative audience.

Part 1 has attracted 9.8 million views, while Part 2 has reached 9.9 million. Part 3 has recorded 8.9 million views, with Parts 4 and 5 each reaching 10 million.

Parts 6, 7 and 8 have each crossed the 12 million mark, while Part 9 has accumulated 13 million views.

Part 10 remains the biggest performer, with 16 million views.

Parts 11, 12 and 13 have recorded 9.9 million, 9.4 million and 8.7 million views respectively.

Produced in Yoruba, Koleoso blends supernatural elements, family drama and themes rooted in traditional African culture.

The series has attracted audiences in Nigeria and among viewers in the diaspora through Yekini’s IteleDIconStudio YouTube channel, demonstrating the growing reach of indigenous-language productions on digital platforms.

The latest Itele Koleoso YouTube views milestone comes months after the series crossed 100 million cumulative views in 2026.

That earlier achievement was regarded as another significant moment for Nollywood digital distribution, particularly because the views were accumulated across multiple instalments on a single YouTube channel.

Yekini has, however, chosen to present the latest achievement as a collective success rather than a personal victory.

“Let me take my flowers. This is a win for Nollywood and a source of pride for Africa,” the filmmaker said.

Yekini also paid tribute to the cast and crew behind the production, alongside the fans who continued to watch, share and support the series.

“This historic achievement belongs to all of us. IT’S OUR WIN! We dreamed it. We created it. You watched it. Together, we made history,” he added.

The performance of Koleoso comes as Nigerian filmmakers increasingly turn to YouTube as an alternative distribution channel, allowing productions to reach audiences directly without relying solely on traditional cinema and television.

For Yekini, the achievement is a powerful endorsement of Yoruba storytelling and the growing appetite for locally produced African content.
