Desmond Elliot Funded Constituency Office with personal earnings from film, revealing how his Nollywood income supported his public service operations

Elliot made the disclosure while reflecting on his experience in public service, stating that proceeds from filmmaking helped him keep his constituency office running during his time as a legislator.

The actor-turned-politician said he personally financed some of the office’s activities to ensure residents had access to his services and support.

“I used my personal funds from film to run the office while I was serving as a Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Surulere Constituency I,” Elliot said.

Elliot entered politics after establishing himself as one of Nollywood’s recognised actors and filmmakers.

He served in the Lagos State House of Assembly from 2015, where he represented constituents and participated in legislative activities.

His comments have sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians, with some questioning the claim and others debating the financial demands placed on public representatives.

Critics on social media argued that lawmakers receive public funds and allowances to support their official duties, while others viewed Elliot’s statement as an explanation of the personal responsibilities often associated with constituency representation.

During his time in office, Elliot was involved in several community-focused initiatives and legislative activities, while maintaining his connection with the entertainment industry.
