Bukky Wright left Nigeria for her children, apologising to fans while explaining her career break and emotional return to Nollywood

Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has revealed that her decision to leave Nigeria and step away from the movie industry was driven by her responsibilities as a mother, saying she would make the same choice again if given another opportunity.

The actress shared the reason behind her long absence from the Nigerian entertainment scene during an interview with Morayo Afolabi Brown, where she discussed motherhood, personal growth, legacy and her return to filmmaking.

The Bukky Wright left Nigeria decision, she explained, was not because she had abandoned her fans or the industry but because she wanted to prioritise her children at a crucial stage of their lives.

“I left this country many years ago because of my children, and I will do it over and over again if I had to,” Wright said.

The respected actress also apologised to her fans and supporters who felt disappointed by her sudden departure from Nollywood, admitting that she could have communicated her decision better.

“At this point, I think I have to apologise. I am so sorry I left you guys without letting you know. Mama duty called,” she said.

Wright, who remains one of the recognisable faces of Nigerian cinema, explained that her decision reflected the importance she placed on family responsibilities despite her successful acting career.

The actress also spoke about her return to the big screen through her first cinema production, “Omatara Johnson”, revealing that the project was partly inspired by repeated requests from fans who wanted to see her act again.

She said she deliberately kept the project private during production because she had learnt that some ambitions develop better when protected before being revealed.

“I didn’t tell people I was coming back. A lot of people didn’t know I was shooting because I have learnt something: what you keep to your heart manifests better,” she said.

The veteran performer credited her son and production team for helping to develop the marketing strategy behind the movie, describing their support as important to the project’s progress.

Wright’s story highlights the personal choices many entertainers make while balancing public careers with family commitments.
