Nollywood veteran Olaiya Igwe expresses regret over disappointing Tope Alabi by not lending her his luxury car for her wedding, despite prior agreement
Veteran Nollywood actor, Olaiya Igwe, has opened up about a past regret involving popular gospel singer, Tope Alabi. In a candid interview with Baba Ibe TV, Igwe revealed his deep remorse over disappointing the singer on her wedding day, an incident that has continued to trouble him for years.
According to Igwe, the incident took place some years ago after the release of his hit movie *Ololade Mr Money*. The actor had recently bought a luxury car, a “V boot,” and was excited to show it off.
Tope Alabi and her husband, Soji, had approached him to borrow the car for their wedding day. Igwe initially agreed to the request, but things took an unexpected turn just before the wedding.
“I had just bought the car, and before I collected the plate number, I had inscribed *Ololade Mr Money 1* on it,” Igwe recalled. However, shortly after purchasing the car, Igwe experienced a robbery while in Ibadan, where the car was stolen. Fortunately, it was later recovered, and the news spread quickly across radio stations.
When Tope Alabi and her husband came to visit him in Abeokuta to request the car for the wedding, Igwe was initially receptive. But after reflecting on the possible risks, including the fear that the car might be stolen again, Igwe decided to back out of the arrangement.
“I stopped picking her calls a day before the wedding. I didn’t give her the car. I disappointed Tope Alabi,” Igwe admitted.
He went on to express his deep regret, stating that the guilt still weighs heavily on him. “What hurt me most and still hurting me is what I did to my younger sister, Tope Alabi,” he continued.
Despite seeking forgiveness from the singer during a professional meeting in Ogun State, Igwe confessed that the pain of letting her down lingers.
Since then, Tope Alabi has enjoyed much success and acquired several luxury cars, some of which Igwe admitted he could not afford. Still, the actor’s biggest regret remains the unfulfilled promise he made to her on her wedding day.
“I once sought her forgiveness, but my greatest regret is disappointing Tope Alabi,” Igwe concluded, still clearly affected by the incident.
